About
Founded in 1992, Nepal Addhyayn Kendra known as the Centre for Nepal Studies (CNS) is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-partisan civil society organization which advocates for the needs to build a vibrant democratic society with social justice and equality. CNS has been active in social policy formulation debates, including the root causes of poverty and inequality, gender dimensions, good governance and corporate social responsibility with an uncompromising ethos for the protection of public interests in building a progressive society. CNS is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council and registered under the government of Nepal. Over the last 22 years, CNS has led many social, political and economic discourses primarily on democratic and socialist ideas - bringing together top political leaders of national parties, intellectuals, academicians and youth in a single platform to promote ideological & political debates to forge common agendas in the politics of transition within the Nepali context. Research-based interactions and discussions among national leaders, intellectuals and academicians have helped clarify social and political as well as ideological issues during the initial phase of policy formulation. Hence, over the last two decades, CNS has been actively involved with policy makers in the spheres of politics, economy and development.
CNS initiatives have been successful in offering policy feedbacks - formally and informally to its members, leaders of political organizations, government agencies and the civic society at large. The Centre is resourceful, involving dozens of social scientists and volunteers to carry out quality researches and so the research based advocacy to intervening positively at the national policy level. CNS has published books, academic papers and related articles on political economy, social movements, contemporary development agendas and other relevant social discourses. Hence, one of the main domains of CNS activities includes research-based publications, organizing ideological discussions, workshops and seminars. It disseminates the published works for public debates and awareness by organizing open public forums at different levels and in different parts of the country. Since its very inception, CNS has focused on youth by organizing forums, colleague sit-in sessions, youth social clubs and classes on democratic, socialist and left ideas including field study/research and trainings based on contemporary social theories, development agendas, policy formulations and its possible impacts on national and local levels. The series of interactions on current politico-economic and sociological issues with the involvement of renowned political activists, academicians, journalists, professionals etc. are complementary to this process.
